Experience Your State Park

The Topanga Canyon Docents is a nonprofit, public benefit group of volunteers who dedicate themselves to the protection and preservation of the environment.
We provide immersive guidance and environmental education in Topanga State Park, part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, the world’s largest urban wildland.

TCD Mission Statement

Topanga Canyon Docents was formed in 1981, shortly after the creation of Topanga State Park, for the purpose of introducing the public to the natural wonders of the Santa Monica Mountains. Docents are trained volunteers who lead interpretative nature walks for both the general public and for school children in Topanga State Park and other locations in the Santa Monica Mountains. The goal of their work is to increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, to develop a concern for the preservation of wildlands, and for responsible stewardship of the earth.
